Remembering Tagore
On this 60th anniversary of Indian independence, I post this, Satyajit Ray's documentary of my favorite figure from the Indian national struggle, not least because he really wasn't a nationalist and because of his deep decency, Rabindranath Tagore.
Part 2 can be found here, part 3 here, part 4 here and part 5 here.

What a lovely way to commemorate the Indian Independence Day!
Thank you for this beautiful tribute to one of the most beautiful minds of Indian thought.
Lovely video on Rabindranath Tagore ~ and beautiful music, too!

It is worth noting that India adopted one of Tagore's poems as its national anthem. While the anthem is an ode to India's vastness and its unified destiny, this poem (Where the Mind is Without Fear) better encapsulates the vision Tagore had for the nation's philosophical soul. How far removed is India (and the rest of the world) from that ideal?
